What is SACU

The Southern African Customs Union (SACU) consists of Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa, and Eswatini. The SACU Secretariat is located in Windhoek, Namibia. SACU was established in 1910, making it the world’s oldest Customs Union.

UNCTAD Aid for Trade and Development Preparatory Meeting, 24 – 25 January 2008, Bangkok, Thailand

A preparatory meeting was held on 24 – 24 January 2008 for the UNCTAD XII conference. The Conference, which is the highest decision-making body of UNCTAD and is a subsidiary organ of the United Nations General Assembly, will be held in Accra, Ghana, in April 2008.

The agreed themes for the conference are:

Addressing the opportunities and challenges of globalization for development

Sub-themes:

Enhancing coherence at all levels for sustainable economic development and poverty reduction in global policy making, including the contribution of regional approaches.
Key trade and development issues and the new realities in the geography of the world economy.
Enhancing the enabling environment at all levels to strengthen productive capacity, trade and investment: mobilizing resources and harnessing knowledge for development.
Strengthening UNCTAD; enhancing its development role, impact, and institutional effectiveness.
