7^th SACU Ministerial Retreat and 56th Council of Ministers Meeting

SACU Ministers responsible for Finance, Trade and Industry convened in Cape Town, South Africa, for the 7^th Ministerial Retreat on 24 June 2026, followed by the 56^th Meeting of the SACU Council of Ministers on 25 June 2026. Both meetings were chaired by the Honourable Enoch Godongwana, Minister of Finance of the Republic of South Africa. The Ministerial Retreat provided an opportunity for Ministers to reflect on key strategic issues affecting the Customs Union, including progress on the Re-imagined SACU Agenda, the implementation of the SACU Strategic Plan and the SACU Commission Report in preparation for the 9th SACU Summit. Discussions focused on strengthening the relevance of SACU, advancing regional integration, and positioning the Customs Union to respond effectively to the rapidly evolving global economic landscape. At the Council Meeting, Ministers reviewed progress on the implementation of the SACU Strategic Plan and the Re-imagined SACU Agenda, amongst others.
